I Oppose the Chicago Transit Takeover

As a suburban taxpayer, I’m concerned about legislation that gives Mayor Brandon Johnson and Chicago majority control of a new regional transit board — along with $1 billion in new taxes.

This plan is a billion-dollar bailout for Chicago’s mismanaged transit system, paid for by families like mine in the suburbs. It gives Brandon Johnson and Chicago politicians majority control of a new regional transit board—with no real power to block bad decisions. Fares, service cuts, and tax hikes will be decided without meaningful suburban input.

Public transit should serve the whole region fairly.
